Llano Memorial Hospice opened its doors in April of 1999 with the mission of providing services to the terminally ill and their families, and since that time has provided care to over 220 patients in Llano, Burnet, Mason and San Saba Counties and has touched countless more lives helping the families through a very difficult period. Traditionally, hospice care encompasses nursing and personal services, medication management, pain and symptom control, needed medical equipment to make the patient more comfortable, plus social, spiritual and emotional support both for the patient and their family. Hospice services may be provided wherever the patient calls home, be it an assisted living facility, nursing home, their own residence or the home of a loved one. According to Ann Minnix, RN, Director of Llano Memorial Hospice, "Hospice provides medical, emotional and spiritual support for life’s final act, and it accomplishes this goal in an environment that includes home, family and friends. Working as a team, hospice staff, the patient’s physician and volunteers strive to improve the patient’s quality of life for whatever time is remaining. Individuals involved with providing hospice care want to help patients live their lives to their greatest purpose and meaning. They want to bring hope into a hopeless situation and administer compassionate care and comfort to patients and families." Hospice is a covered benefit under Medicare as well as many private health insurance policies and HMO’s. Llano Memorial Hospice is a non-profit hospice and as such services are based upon need, rather than the ability to pay. For more information about Llano Memorial Hospice call 325 247-3715.
