Llano Memorial Hospital Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in October 1991 as a tax exempt supporting organization for the exclusive benefit of Llano Memorial Hospital with the purpose of conducting periodic fund-raisers and encouraging annual giving and endowment gifts to be used for expanding facilities, equipment and services of the hospital. The Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of at least 16 members as dictated by our by-laws. In October of 1999, the Board passed an amendment to the by-laws changing the name to Llano Memorial Healthcare System Foundation. The change in name was prompted by the healthcare system's continued growth with additional services – the Hoerster Clinics, Rehab Clinics, EMS, and Hospice.
With the support of donations, fundraising events and memorials, the Foundation has been able to aide in the renovation of hospital rooms in 1998, purchase a new ambulance in 1999, and purchase new radiology equipment in 2001. Foundation projects for 2002 were dedicated to raising funds for the Emergency Room expansion, and 2003 efforts have been focused on a CT scanner upgrade for the imaging department at the hospital.
Long time board member and past-president, Steve Haverlah, presenting check to LMHS Administrator, Kevin Leeper, noted recently "The rising costs for delivery of healthcare and reduced reimbursement from all payor sources leaves most healthcare systems dependent on the work of supporting organizations, such as our Foundation, and charitable giving from their communities. Additional funds are needed for capital improvements, equipment and technology upgrades at hospitals and healthcare systems across the country, just as they are needed here in Llano. That’s why a strong and active Foundation is essential to the future of our healthcare system, and community financial support is vital."
