Llano County Emergency Medical Services began in May of 1975 with four full-time employees and two ambulances after the local funeral home turned the service over to the county.

The county operated EMS until the hospital took over operations management in January of 1987 at which time staff was increased to six full-time employees.  Later that year several of the employees completed Paramedic training and for the first time emergency medications, I.V. fluids and advanced airway equipment were added to the ambulance for advanced patient care.

In 1993, Llano County Commissioners gave Llano Memorial Hospital total management and responsibility for Llano County EMS.  Since that time the entire fleet has been upgraded numerous times, the service level increased from advanced life support to mobile intensive care unit and full time staff now numbers 15.

There are three ambulances stationed throughout the county at this time – one in Llano, another in Kingsland and the third in Buchanan Dam.
